Nothing defines the holidays more than eggnog! Even though eggnog is a sweet treat to have once in a while, the bad news is that it’s usually loaded with high amounts of sugar and fat. The good news? Banana eggnog is not only healthy but a tasty alternative!
Now I know what you’re thinking… banana eggnog?! Seems like an unconventional combination but the sweetness of banana with texture of Greek yogurt creates a surprisingly similar consistency and flavor to a holiday classic we know and love!
This recipe also has an incredible aroma thanks to both cinnamon and nutmeg – two must-have seasonings for every holiday season! Cinnamon is a source of antioxidants, which are important for protecting our body’s cells from damage from the environment. When I make this recipe, I add a pinch of cinnamon to blend and afterwards garnish the eggnog with additional cinnamon which helps make this recipe stand out even more.
Love egg nog? Make a healthier vegan version! #recipe: Click To TweetMy favorite thing about this recipe is just how easy and quick it is to make. The only kitchen appliance you need is a blender, which makes for less cleanup. For a recipe that involves blending bananas, a common mistake is to make many slices of banana before putting it in the blender – don’t waste your time! Bananas are soft and can be placed as is and your blender will do the rest!
I usually use skim milk and plain yogurt when making this recipe because of their lower fat content, but if you’re vegan you can use any unflavored dairy alternatives and sweeten with maple syrup if desired.
Overall, what’s not to love about a beverage that’s not only healthy but doesn’t compromise on flavor? Just the name banana eggnog will certainly get people talking, and may even start a new tradition!
