Healthy DIY Smoothies in 3 Easy Steps

Smoothies are great options for quick and easy meals and snacks that you can pack full of nutrients! Have you tried making your own smoothies but find they don’t always taste good or have the right texture? How do you know if your smoothie is helping you meet your health, fitness and weight management goals?

  1. Start with a liquid base.

Choose 1 cup of a liquid such as milk, almond milk, soymilk or 100% juice (no sugar added). If you find your smoothie is too thick or thin, add more or less liquid accordingly.

  1. Add fruit and even vegetables!

Add ½ cup of frozen banana, berries, peaches and a handful of spinach or kale leaves for a healthy dose of vitamins, minerals and fibre.

  1. Power up with protein.

Add 2 tablespoons or more of nut butter such as peanut butter or almond butter, Greek yogurt, hemp seeds or chia seeds, pasteurized egg whites, and/or a protein powder made from whey, casein or a vegan version.

Bonus: Fibre-riffic!

Add some oat bran, flax seeds and more for an extra dose of filling fibre!
